Learning that Impacts an Ever-changing World

Yew Chung education commenced with my mother’s perceptive insight during the 1930s; development and expansion has continued throughout the 80 years since. Our commitment to education today recognises the necessity for thinking and acting from insular to universal. Yew Chung has always strived to diversify and reshape the path of education according to our ever-changing world.

What is the true purpose of education? What is the common goal for parents and us as educators? Is it the style of building they enter or the substance of the learning provided that makes the key impact on the child? Parents making the important decision of choosing a school for their children need to look inside the classroom for evidence of quality education for their child.

A child is a true creation from influences both of the home and learning environment; teachers play a key role, as do parents. The world today is more competitive than ever, bringing unpredictable challenges and new situations. Parents have a strong sense of responsibility in choosing a school to help prepare their child for the unknown future. The evolving world dynamics have sought and forced changes upon us; thus at Yew Chung International School (YCIS) the content and quality of teaching take precedence over all else.

A YCIS student, on our unique education journey, is immersed in Eastern and Western cultures whilst acquiring a high proficiency in English and Chinese. Our students gain a new and profoundly deep appreciation of the two spectrums. Regardless of their background, YCIS students achieve an ability to move effortlessly between Eastern and Western styles, and communicate naturally and confidently. We witness a beautiful and respectful transformation within the young person.

YCIS acknowledges our human obligation to cultivate a new generation that will meet the environmental, social and economic challenges ahead. We should ask ourselves, what kind of persons would we wish to lead the world? Besides our commitment to global education, we have a vision to develop the students’ inner moral compass; the two complement each other, enabling the students to take the helm and steer their way through human complexities and exhibit virtues, honesty, compassion and confidence. After all, the students have to realise that it is the learning that will impact and transform the future.
