Financial and Spiritual Support Pledged

YCIS Beijing has shown support both financially and spiritually for the Sichuan earthquake victims by carrying out various activities following the disaster on May 12.

Past events:

Mufti Day kicked off our fundraising efforts, raising 51,000 yuan by Wednesday May 21. The amount is still increasing every day and donations continue to come in.

On Friday May 16, YCIS Beijing proudly hosted the Faux Paw Goes to the Games bilingual book launch, which promotes the safe use of the Internet to children. Following Superintendent Tom Ulmet’s touching speech encouraging us all to support victims of the earthquake in any way we can, the book’s Coalition, iKeep Safe, donated 160 books to be sold from the school office. Books have been selling well at a price of 100 yuan each, all of which goes towards the earthquake relief fund.

From May 19, various classes throughout the school have been making and writing cards with messages of support and love for school children affected by the earthquake throughout Sichuan Province.

Following the week of official mourning, YCIS Beijing has re-ignited the Olympic spirit with a school Torch Relay around Honglinjin Park lake. This was followed with the opportunity for students and parents to have their photo taken with an official Olympic Relay Torch for a donation towards the earthquake relief fund or purchase some baked goods from the Years 10 and 11 bake sale.
