Letter to Parents
June 13, 2008
Dear Parents,
It has been a month since the tragedy of the Sichuan
earthquake. The official death toll has risen to
almost 70,000, with nearly 18,000 listed as still
missing. Five million people lost their homes and
many people are still lying in their hospital beds.
As of the end of May, it was encouraging to see
that about 1,600,000 yuan had been gathered by
all schools of Yew Chung. The proceeds were being
sent to our partner charity organisations to reach
the Sichuan earthquake victims. We believe the
more donations we collect, the more we could contribute
to the relief work in the long run. We continue
our fundraising efforts in the hope that we can
help the affected people to re-energize, re-build
and re-construct physically, emotionally and socially.
Also, we carry on sending our love and care to
the children in the affect regions. Mid- and long-
term plans, such as rebuilding schools and providing
training to new teachers in Sichuan, have been
discussed among our school communities. More detailed
discussions on the actual needs of the affected
area will be continued.
Before the school term ends in June, all Yew Chung
schools are encouraged to keep up their charity
efforts. Your ardent support to the earthquake
relief and your prayers for the people affected
are much appreciated.
Thank you all for your support!
God Bless,
Sichuan Earthquake Relief Committee
