Launched in 2005, this initiative brings world-class professional artists to our campuses, immersing students in artistic creativity and inspiring their own artistic journeys. Each AiR specialises in areas such as painting, mosaic, sculpture, or comic design. They share their skills and ideas with students through diverse projects as they visit various YCYW campuses. AiRs collaborate with students, teachers, and the community to create a wide range of projects, from small paintings to large-scale murals and sculptures. The artwork serves not only as decoration but also as a reflection of the lives and experiences of those involved in its creation. Through community art, AiRs facilitate reflective dialogues and guide students to discover the transformative power of artistic expression
Music has always played a central role in YCYW schools, and music can be heard in every corner of our campuses. Our distinctive Early Childhood and Primary Violin Programme supports students from K4 to Grade 3/Year 4 at Yew Chung Yew Wah Schools to participate in weekly group sessions to learn the violin. The comprehensive violin programme promotes health, coordination, and focus through violin playing. We support aspiring students to further develop their music and presentation skills with a range of activities including chamber music, orchestral works, masterclasses, performances and competitions. Our In-school Individual Instrumental Programme (IIIP) lessons are uniquely designed with a rotational scheduling system during school hours to allow students to receive high-quality one-on-one instrumental lessons with well-trained music professionals without affecting their academic study. Our Chinese Orchestral and Instrumental Programme offers group or individual training for a wide range of Chinese instruments. Students learn from specialist instructors on a weekly basis.
YCYW established the Educational Futures (EdFutures) Division at the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, dedicated to forming exclusive partnerships with top universities and Fortune 500 companies domestically and internationally.
The division aims to inspire students' interest in technology and foster a passion for exploration, helping them overcome time and geographical barriers to engage in learning. Owing to its pioneering and progressive approach to education, YCYW distinguished itself as the only educational institution listed in the "Top 20 Innovative Brands Selection" of 2024 Forbes China. The EdFutures Division epitomises our commitment to innovation, and continues to provide a wide array of exciting, high-quality, and unique learning opportunities for students. YCYW formed active collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, The University of Hong Kong, and the Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR). These partnerships have enabled students to extend their learning, interact personally with industry experts, and immerse themselves in real-world situations, thus enhancing their educational experiences and preparing them for future challenges. Super-Curricular Programme and YCYW Meta (YCYW Online) are the two pillars to offer our students a wide range of subjects and refined learning experience.
Character Education is one of the YCYW education core values. In our character education, such as the Seeds of Hope programme, students are made aware of their responsibilities to their families, schools, and society, and develop a good character to serve and contribute to the community. Through acquiring practical skills, they can overcome challenges at ethical, moral, spiritual, social, and cultural levels, gradually developing their own values and beliefs, making them individuals with a global perspective, caring for others, and having the courage to take on responsibility.
"Our students are well-rounded individuals who have a deep-rooted understanding of their place and role in society, and will thrive in the 21st century."
Since its inception in 1996, the YCYW Seeds of Hope programme has been in operation for 28 years.
The programme began as an on-campus fundraising effort to support reconstruction after earthquakes. It has developed into a systematic charitable programme that connects character education for students with public welfare assistance.
Over the past 28 years, the Seeds of Hope programme has operated in various locations, including: Lijiang, Yunnan Province; Ziyang, Sichuan Province; Qufu, Shandong Province; Baoding, Hebei Province; Shaoguan, Guangdong Province; the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province; and Manila, Philippines. The programme provides different kinds of support, such as constructing schools and campus facilities, and facilitating teacher-student exchanges. Its goal is to bring hope for the future to local children. The Seeds of Hope programme is also a cornerstone of YCYW's commitment to service and community engagement. It provides YCYW teachers, students, and community members from around the world the opportunity to connect with unfamiliar locations and people, understand societal diversity, and reflect on the significance of education for both individuals and society.
Dr Betty Chan Po-king, CEO and School Supervisor of YCYW, who initiated the project, said,
“These actions also reflect the YCYW values we instil in our students. We want to nurture our students to become people of exemplary character, who have compassion, empathy, and a belief in the power of education to transform lives.”
For 28 years, these educational ideals have resonated through generations of the YCYW community.
The World Classroom programme is designed to enable students to develop their awareness and understanding of other cultures, encourage critical thinking and open-mindedness, so that they become true global citizens with a commitment to serving family, society and the wider humanity. Students travel to all corners of the globe, from Tanzania and India to Russia and Greece, and enjoy once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to learn about different peoples and cultures.
"On World Classroom trips, students experience different cultures first hand through specifically designed activities, building stronger teacher-student relationships. Every trip is filled with elements of adventure, discovery, and social commitment. It is of tremendous satisfaction to see students grow and expand their global perspectives."
Students have unique opportunities to visit some of China’s most interesting places from Shanxi to Beijing, allowing them to explore the country in the most exciting way. Each trip is filled with elements of adventure, exploration, challenge and community service, and focuses on a different facet of the Chinese Studies programme.
"In the China Classroom Programme, different locations in China serve as classrooms for students, and the experiences which they enjoy while travelling become their teachers. Through authentic, hands-on experiences, specially designed activities and guided reflection, students will be able to make connections between their classroom learning and the real world, thereby gaining a more profound understanding of Chinese history, geography and culture."
